Puncture Repair That Saved a Customer Money — Market Drayton - July 2026

Rim Leak Repair in Market Drayton

A customer recently arrived at SL Auto Service & Tyres in Market Drayton with just his wheel, convinced he needed a tyre replacement after noticing it kept going flat. It's a situation we see regularly — and it's exactly the kind of job where taking a few extra minutes to properly investigate before reaching for a new tyre can save a customer a significant amount of money.

What We Found

Rather than simply fitting a new tyre straight away, we started by properly testing the wheel to find out exactly where the air was escaping from.

The test revealed that the tyre itself wasn't the problem at all. The air was leaking from the rim — a common issue that occurs when corrosion, dirt, or debris builds up between the tyre bead and the wheel rim, breaking the airtight seal that keeps the tyre inflated. This is often mistaken for a puncture since the symptoms are identical — a tyre that slowly loses pressure — but the cause and solution are completely different.

What We Did

Once we'd identified the real cause, the fix was straightforward:

  • We removed the tyre from the rim
  • Thoroughly cleaned the rim to remove all corrosion and debris from the bead seat
  • Refitted the same tyre back onto the cleaned rim
  • Reinflated and tested to confirm the seal was airtight with no further leakage

The result — no more leaks, no new tyre needed, and a customer who left significantly better off than he expected to be when he arrived.

Why This Matters

It would have been easy to simply fit a new tyre without investigating further. The customer expected to pay for one, and most garages would have obliged. But at SL Auto Service & Tyres, we always find the actual cause of a problem before recommending a repair — because in this case, fitting a new tyre wouldn't have fixed the leak at all. The rim would still have been corroded, the new tyre would have lost pressure just as quickly, and the customer would have been back with the same problem having spent money on a tyre he didn't need.

This is what honest, diagnostic-first garage work looks like in practice.

Is Your Tyre Losing Pressure?

If your tyre keeps going flat but you can't find an obvious puncture, a rim leak could be the cause. It's a quick and inexpensive fix when caught early — and much cheaper than an unnecessary tyre replacement.

Pop in to see us at our Market Drayton garage and we'll find out exactly what's causing the problem before recommending any work. No appointment necessary.

Mercedes Injector Service & Diagnostics — Market Drayton - June 2026

A customer recently brought their Mercedes into us at SL Auto Service & Tyres in Market Drayton complaining of noticeable performance drops and engine misfires. These are classic symptoms that something isn't right with how the engine is running — but rather than guessing at the cause, we always start with a proper diagnostic check.

Injector Repair in Market Drayton

The Diagnostic Check

We plugged in our professional diagnostic equipment and carried out a full fault code scan of the vehicle. Alongside the injector-related fault codes we expected to find, the scan also revealed something the customer wasn't aware of — an error with the transmission control module.

This is exactly why we always insist on a full diagnostic before recommending any work. Without it, a garage might focus solely on the obvious symptoms and miss a secondary fault entirely — leaving the customer with a car that still isn't right after they've paid for repairs.

We cleared both sets of fault codes and monitored the vehicle. Neither fault returned, and the customer immediately noticed the car driving more smoothly — a clear sign that the transmission control module error had been contributing to the poor performance alongside the injector issue.

The Injector Service

With the diagnostic complete, we moved on to a full injector service. Fuel injectors play a critical role in how your engine runs — they deliver precisely measured amounts of fuel into the combustion chamber, and when they become dirty, worn, or develop seal failures, the result is exactly what this customer experienced: misfires, sluggish performance, and often increased fuel consumption too.

We carried out the following on this Mercedes:

  • Full injector testing to assess each injector's performance and spray pattern
  • Professional injector cleaning to remove built-up deposits and restore correct fuel delivery
  • Injector seal replacement to eliminate any leaks and ensure a proper seal

The combination of a thorough diagnostic, transmission fault resolution, and a complete injector service left the car running exactly as it should — and the customer left happy with a Mercedes that felt noticeably different to drive compared to when it arrived.

Could Your Car Have a Similar Problem?

Injector problems don't always announce themselves dramatically. Often the signs are subtle at first — slightly hesitant acceleration, a small drop in fuel economy, or an occasional misfire you can almost convince yourself isn't happening. By the time misfires become obvious, the problem has usually been developing for a while.

If your car is showing any of these symptoms, it's worth getting it checked sooner rather than later. Early diagnosis almost always means a quicker and more cost-effective fix — and as this job shows, a proper diagnostic often reveals problems you didn't even know existed.

We work on all makes and models at our garage in Market Drayton, including Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Ford, Vauxhall, and everything in between. No appointment necessary for most jobs — simply pop in and we'll take a look.
